Steps

We help you work through the 10 simple Steps to plan and facilitate a brainstorm.

Step 1. Map out a clear direction and strategy. We prefer to use a creative brief to ensure agreement in advance among all parties. (Download ours, below.)
Step 2. Determine the creative criteria. How will you select the best idea?
Step 3. Research the topic to understand the situation and target audience mindset.
Step 4. Define the roles. You - either as active participant or a silent presence. Us - facilitator, mediator, energy-maker, listener and writer.
Step 5. Prepare the environment: location, games and exercises, food and drink.
Step 6. Invite the right people - prolific idea people who want to challenge the status quo. Sleepy, oxygen-sucking, mute people go elsewhere.
Step 7. Minimise negativity, the single biggest reason why brainstorms fail. It's our job to prevent it occurring.
Step 8. Go for maximum volume of ideas. Of all ideas generated in a brainstorm, 90% will be unusable, but 10% will be brilliant. The more ideas we have, the more brilliant ideas you'll have.
Step 9. Work until we get the idea, then reward and recognise the team.
Step 10. Wrap-up the brainstorm in a way which will help you translate the ideas into workable solutions.
